About

It was 1979, the year Kaia married, when the horror began—the ruthless hunt of a deranged stalker that, spanning three decades, would shatter her life and terrorize her family. He’d been a college classmate, a casual acquaintance. But mental illness swiftly took hold and so did his obsession.

Their lives under siege, Kaia fought fiercely for safety and justice until—consumed by fear, tormented by the insanity of the courts—she stood at a crossroads and only one thing was clear: Lose herself or find herself, she must change direction.

Desperate for answers, she embarked on a path of self-discovery, a psycho-spiritual journey unlike any she’d known. Guided by a counselor, lured by clues revealed in her ongoing battle, Kaia traveled to the furthest reaches of her unconscious mind: dark, shadowy places where long-buried secrets of the soul reside; forgotten places that beckoned her to remember; places where she unearthed hidden wisdom that, step upon step, transformed her and so, her experience.

Now Kaia is dedicated to sharing her story and this little known and desperately needed path to healing, consciousness, and empowerment through her memoir and beyond.

Kaia’s case spurred the overhaul of Colorado’s stalking law. For the first time, the law addressed the emotional violation and declared it a serious crime against a person. It’s still considered one of the nation’s strongest.

For her participation in reforming the law and the prosecution of her cases over a twenty-six-year period, Kaia was honored with a Commitment to Justice Award by the Boulder DA’s office. Advocating legislative reform, she’s also been instrumental in strengthening the state’s crime victim rights.

Investigation Discovery’s Stalked documentary series featured Kaia’s story (S4, Ep. 14).

Born in Missouri, Kaia received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder. During her decades-long stalking ordeal, she also earned her master’s degree, built a distinguished consulting career, and raised her three remarkable children. She still calls Colorado home.
